"Blowing Kisses to God:" Saint Espirit on Worship and Their New Worship EP
SAINT ESPRIT is a Christian pop group from Southern California. It began in 2014 at A to Z studios when (singer) Kelly Bibeau and (drummer) husband Michael Bibeau decided to record an EP with the Trust (Rich Zahniser and Tommy Hubbard). The vision is to reach the hearts of people through song, to ultimately heal and breathe hope and life to listeners. Mixing EDM, worship and pop, the group also teamed up with producer Elliot Richardson (Peter Furler, The O.C. Supertones) and Matthew Parker (Jonathan Thulin,Capital Kings, Lecrae) contributed a remix as well. The group is also a part of the worship team, Nightlife Worship which just released their debut on Dream Worship in April.
The group will be debuting their self-titled 7 song EP for pre-order on June 23rd with a July 10th street date. iTunes customers will be able to get their single(s), "Wildfire" and "I Can Be The Light" with the pre-order instantly.
Hallels: I believe "Saint Espirit" is French for "Holy Spirit." How did you come to choose this name for the team? And why a French name?
Well Michael my husband, is French and his last name "Bibeau" is French, his memere' (grandmother) always sings beautiful French songs and I've always been drawn to the language & the sound of French Cabaret singers. When we got back from a mission trip from Greece In 2011 I encountered the Holy Spirit in a new way and re-received my prayer language. I'm always trying to translate words in French in my spare time and when I translated the word Holy Spirit to Saint Esprit, I knew that was the name I would use if we ever decided to do any kind of musical side project, and years later we had that God given opportunity.
Hallels: How did the Lord bring you together as a group?
Michael was in a punk band Rudiger and I was writing songs on my guitar when we met. After we married we dedicated our music to the Lord and joined the band Nightlife Worship at church. It was while recording the Nightlife Worship album that we met up with Michaels high school friend Rich Zahniser from the Trust Music Group and decided to cowrite a song together. After the first session we knew we had to continue to write more songs and finish an EP.
Hallels: You are also involved with Nightlife Worship, who have recently just released their worship album. What is your involvement there?
Nightlife Worship started as nights of worship at our church called "Awaken Nights", from there it developed into a band as the worship leaders in our church started writing original worship songs. We also lead on Sunday mornings and I'm a part of the women's worship "Linked" and retreats at the Bridge Church as well. We love our church family at the Bridge Church!
Hallels: Your new EP is coming out on July 10th, what are you most excited this new release?
So excited for this!!! It all just kind of happened, excited to have a tangible copy of the CD, excited to hear all the positive or negative feedback, excited to put it out there, and can only hope and pray it's heard, and to inspire some good outcomes in the world through this project!!! Yayy!!
Hallels: On your new EP, you have tried to mix EDM with worship music, how did you become interested in EDM-influenced worship?
In worship practices we started using more progressive synth sounds and found interesting apps and liked the way it sounded. We started to also listen to remixed versions of songs by different producers, it's amazing the different shapes a song can take on.
Hallels: Speaking of worship, how would you define "worship"?
Worship is actually a contraction of worth-ship, which means to honor what is honorable. The Greek word "Proskuneo" always comes to mind, which means to kiss the hand towards, or simply put, blowing kisses to God.
