Find Out What Mother's Day Means to Red Roots, Joseph Habedank, Ivan Parker, Lindsay Huggins & Kathy Karnes
Mother's Day is a special day God has given us to honor our mothers. In a recent interview with us, Nika Taylor of Gospel group Red Roots shares with us how she and her two sisters would honor their mom. "We usually try to make my mom breakfast, and my dad will cook whatever is her favorite food for lunch and supper. We help anyway we can, but we leave the cooking to the experts. Last year we were on the road for Mother's day, so we had to eat out, so she chose Popeyes which she enjoyed I think as much or more than anything we could cook."
Speaking for herself, Nika Taylor reflects: "Mother's Day to me means that it's a day to honor our mom. She does so many different things for us that we need that we don't even know we need all the time. It is just a day to be thankful for her and appreciate all the little and big things she does for us. All the unconditional love she shows; we want to just tell her thank you and show her love back."
Mother's Day for singer and songwriter Joseph Habedank (formerly of the Perrys) holds lots of bittersweet memories. He was raised by a single mom as his parents divorced when he was three, so he never knew what it was like to be raised by two parents at once. Speaking of his mom, Habedank says, "My Mom was always a very strong woman who raised me and my two brothers to be in church "every time the doors were open" as they say. More importantly, she raised us to love and serve Christ. I'm grateful for her continual influence and endless support. After being a single parent for over 20 years, Leah Beth Sandlin, affectionately known as Mom, married a preacher named George Griffis in 2012 and is as happy as I've ever seen her. Happy Mother's Day to my dear Christian Mother!"
Just in time for Moher's Day, Lindsay Huggins has released a new video and single "Praying Women." The song is a tribute to the various women who have had shaped Huggins' life through prayer. "Mother's Day to me," says Huggins, "is about making a concerted and pointed effort to recognize and thank our mothers, grandmothers, and the women in our lives who have helped us become who we are. I think it's less about giving the sappy greeting card and more about communicating how much we love and appreciate them. Now that I'm a mother, I realize how much a mom gives for her kids and family, sometimes thanklessly. But I also know that one of the sweetest gifts ever is a big hug and a "thank you" or "I love you" uttered by my 3-year-old."
For Ivan Parker, who has released his new Crossroads' album "Threads of Mercy" earlier this year, Mother's Day is every day of the year. "I realize more every year that Mother's Day is one of the most important holidays of the year. My mom just turned 90 years old and every time we talk she reminds me of how much she loves and how much God loves me. The two most real loves in the universe!"
Yet, for Kathy Karnes a mother's love is not restricted to just biologically children. Karnes who has a voice that strongly resonates with the late Karen Carpenter and who has recently released her new Gospel record "Faithful to the End," says: "I'm honored to be the mother of twin daughters, Anna Maria and Kelsey Mihaela. They were born in the country of Romania 22 years ago. My husband John and I traveled to a small orphanage in northern Romania the summer of 1994 to take our newly adopted 21 month old daughters home to our home in Tennessee. God has truly blessed our family and I love being a mom!"
