Galaxy Tab S 8.4 vs. iPad Mini 3 Reviews and Updates: Memory, Processors, Design, Software and Price Comparisons
It is clear that Samsung is updating its inventory by the minute especially in the tab department. Just a few months ago, we were ogling at the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but there have been a few improvements and here comes the Galaxy Tab S 8.4. As for Apple, you have to wonder about their long term plans taking into account they out all of their upgrades into the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2 and they have both hardly improved from their predecessors. Let us compare the two flagships to see who is really reading the market. So once again, there is a battle between the brands.
When it comes to design, weight and build, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is lighter than the iPad mini by about 50 grams, and comes available with a plastic construction as opposed to the Apple product which still has the same unibody aluminum construct. As for resolution, both tablets have sharp screens, but the Tab S is better with the Quad HD resolution. On the other hand, the iPad Mini comes on top concerning sensors and recognition. It comes available with Apple's Touch ID which is effortless to use while solid Samsung sensor still requires the usual swipe from a specific angle. At the same time, the iPad Mini has the advantage that one can touch the edge of the screen without registering accidental touches.
When it comes to software, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 runs of Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung's TouchWiz User Interface which is layered on top. The iPad Mini runs on the iOS 8.1 that brings some features like third party keyboards as well as better synchronization with some of the other Apple devices. As for the pricing, both slates start at the same US $400 though you might be able to find the Galaxy tab on sale at the present, while the iPad mini 3 is not. The upgrades to software and the processor are the major changes the device has gone through though it still maintains a genuine market threat against the Galaxy Tab S 8.4.
