Metallica Announces Weeklong Residency on Late Late Show with 'Craig Ferguson' November 2014
Heavy metal band Metallica will be helping late night host Craig Ferguson go out in style. CBS has announced that Metallica will be performing for a full week on the "Late Late Show" from November 17-21. The band will be sitting in for an interview with Craig on November 17th.
Their 5 day residency on the show coincides with the 10-year anniversary reissue of the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster, which will come out on November 24th, as well as a Record Store Day vinyl pressing of their new song "Lords of Summer," due out Black Friday.
"What better way to celebrate Craig's awesome tenure at CBS than to come and shake the rafters for a whole week," Lars Ulrich tells Rolling Stone. "Nothing to sell, nothing to promote (except a reissue DVD)...purely hanging at Craig's personal request. Bring it!"
Ferguson announced his decision to step down as host of "The Late Late Show" in April and his final show will be in December at a yet to be released date. British actor and comedian James Corden will be stepping in as the show's new host.
Metallica will also be performing as part of the Concert for Valor in Washington, D.C. on November 11th, alongside Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Eminem and Dave Grohl; the show will be broadcast on HBO.
They are putting out vinyl editions of 27 concerts played this year by the end of 2014 and are in the process of working on their new album potentially releasing sometime in 2015.
Metallica has released nine studio albums, four live albums, five extended plays, 26 music videos, and 37 singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards and five of its albums have consecutively debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The band's eponymous 1991 album has sold over 16 million copies in the United States, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan Era. They have sold over 120 million records worldwide.
