Ebola Case Hits New York Rumors and Reveals: Doctor without borders Physician, Craig Spencer in Quarantine Following Ebola diagnosis after Coming Back from West Africa
The Ebola virus has made it to New York City. A Doctor without borders physician,Craig Spencer has been confirmed to have Ebola after coming back from West Africa. He is currently in quarantine at the New York's Bellevue Hospital which is accredited to be efficiently prepared to deal with the Ebola epidemic. The idea that this epidemic has made it the busiest city in the country and home to eight million has sent out a panic. Many are worried being as it took him a while to exhibit the symptoms and he moved around are they in danger of contracting the disease?
An official from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention however, explained that an Ebola response team has been assembled and is helping coordinate his care. His transportation from his home to the hospital was a seamless event and chances of spreading are close to nil. Those that pose a high risk of infection are friends and family that may have interacted with him in close proximity in instances such as physical contact with him or his body fluids, sharing a meal and such like activities. It is to that effect that his girlfriend is currently in isolation and being monitored.
Health care workers that serve outside the country especially Ebola prone areas are at a higher risk of infection and are advised to take 21 days isolation upon arrival. However, there are many questions towards that requirement. Spencer did not take the 21 day isolation period and was well enough to get up and down even managing to go bowling; he was clearly not well enough to go about his business. New reports state that it may take more than 21 days for the symptoms to appear in an Ebola case which begs the question why are we still being instructed to observe a 21 day isolation period? Nurses Amber Vinson and Nina Pham were the most recent Ebola patients in the States and are both receiving treatment and recovering in secure bio containments units.
